Consumer Council Meeting – February 2019
Members were keen to get back into Consumer Council mahi following a short break. Their first meeting of the year focussed one one of their priority areas identified: to remove barriers and eliminate inequities for people experiencing disabilities. The members were joined by representatives from the Public Health
Unit who talked to the group about the working together to co-design a health profile for disabled people. It has been identified that there is minimal data available and the development of a profile will help to identify where the needs are in our communities. The council looks forward to continuing to support this important piece of work and fully endorses this initiative.
Members also discussed a range of issues following community experiences with health services. A pathway was agreed to support these issues through the Waikato DHB's Consumer Engagement team who will ensure the enquiries are followed up.
