Services we provide
Social workers provide assessment, counselling, information provision and complex problem solving for people experiencing:
- emotional stress experienced as a result of changes in health
- grief and loss associated with health changes, and changing roles
- relationship issues, such as carer stress, changing roles and family dynamics
- child protection
- older adult or vulnerable adult abuse
- cultural support
- advocacy and support
- complex social problems impacted by on-going health issues.
Social workers can help with referrals to community resources and services. They can also provide information on accommodation and housing, finance, benefits and legal issues.
Referral information
Inpatient social work
If you are a patient in the hospital, you or your whānau and friends can ask your nurse or doctor to refer to our service.
Community social work
Self-referrals are accepted. With your permission we also accept referrals from your:
- whānau
- healthcare provider
- hospital staff
- specialists and other health professionals.
