The community-based therapy service for the Bay of Plenty is based in Whakatāne Hospital. The service helps people with physical disabilities to be as independent as possible and remain in their home.

Services we provide

Our community therapy team is based at Whakatāne Hospital and usually visits people at home for their first assessment.

Our team can help with:

  • providing tips and tools for daily tasks and independent living
  • assisting with fatigue management
  • helping patients maintain routines and stay active in their daily lives
  • creating personalised rehabilitation plans
  • setting goals and encouraging engagement in meaningful activities
  • advising on equipment for short- or long-term use
  • assisting with applications for home modifications
  • conducting safety checks such as mobility, falls risks and home environment
  • referring patients to other services that may assist them.

The community therapy team includes:

  • physiotherapists
  • occupational therapists
  • speech and language therapists
  • dieticians
  • rehabilitation assistants
  • administrative staff
  • Māori Health Service | Te Pou Kōkiri.
