Our sexual health service provides free and confidential advice, testing and treatment for anyone concerned about their sexual health. We have publicly funded clinics in Tauranga, Whakatāne and Te Puke.

The Harekeke Tauranga sexual health clinic is open Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4pm. You must have an appointment to visit this clinic.

Our Whakatāne clinic is at:

The drop-in clinic is open:

Wednesday: 9am to 3pm
Thursday: 9am to 10.30am.

For booked appointments, the clinic is open:

  • Thursday: 12.30pm to 3pm
  • Friday: 9am to 3pm.

Our Te Puke clinic is at:

Te Puke Community Health Centre and Bladder and Bowel Service

The Te Puke clinic is open every Wednesday, 9am to 3pm.


Services we provide

The Bay of Plenty sexual health service is a publicly funded specialist service.

The sexual health service provides:

  • screening and treatments for sexually transmitted infections and other related conditions
  • contraception, including long-acting reversible contraception
  • pregnancy testing
  • advice and support on sexual health related topics
  • treatment of genital warts using liquid nitrogen
  • initial assessment and management plans for genital skin conditions, genital pain and sexual dysfunction
  • contact tracing
  • gender affirming healthcare including gender affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) for adults over 16 years old
  • referral to specialist care for adults who have been sexually assaulted or abused.

Diagnoses and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is free. Infections that get funded treatment include:

  • chlamydia
  • gonorrhea
  • syphilis
  • human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

You can be referred to our service by your general practitioner or other healthcare providers. You can also refer yourself by calling to make an appointment.
