The radiology service provides different types of medical imaging of the body, including internal organs, bones and tissues. The images help your healthcare provider to diagnose damage or disease and guide treatment. The Bay of Plenty radiology services are located at Tauranga and Whakatāne Hospitals.

- 4 for Tauranga radiology
- 5 for Tauranga CT and MRI scans
- 6 for Whakatāne radiology.
Community and outpatient services are available from Monday to Friday.

Computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound services are on the ground floor. Other radiology services are on the first floor.

The Tauranga Hospital radiology department is on the ground floor of the main hospital building, between the emergency department and the day stay unit.
Services we provide
The radiology service provides 24-hour acute care for the emergency department and hospital wards.
Whakatāne Hospital radiology staff also provide general x-ray services at the Ōpōtiki Community Health Centre 2 days a week.
Services we provide include:
- general x-ray
- ultrasound
- CT scanning.
Tauranga Hospital also provides more specialist x-rays services, including:
- fluoroscopy
- interventional radiology
- orthopantomogram (OPG).
We contract private radiology providers for:
- mammography (breast imaging)
- bone densitometry (density measurement)
- magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) services.
