Nutrition and dietetics is part of the Bay of Plenty region's allied health service. Dietitians work in many clinical settings, including inpatient and outpatient services, community and mental health services.

Services we provide

The nutrition services team at Tauranga Hospital has specialist dietitians providing services to all wards. They also provide outpatient services for adults and children.

Nutrition support can improve health outcomes for people with:

  • diabetes mellitus
  • cardiovascular disease
  • neurodegenerative disorders
  • food allergy and intolerance
  • gastrointestinal disorders
  • malnutrition
  • cancer. 

We also provide support for:

  • specialist feeding regimes, such as enteral feeding (feeding direct to the gastrointestinal tract)
  • recovery after surgery, including wound healing
  • rehabilitation
  • mental health conditions, such as eating disorders
  • paediatrics.

Referral information

Inpatient service

You can be referred to our inpatient service by a member of your medical team while you are staying in hospital.

Outpatient service

You can be referred to an outpatient service by your primary healthcare provider. You cannot refer yourself.
